South Dublin County Council say construction of a new stand at Tallaght Stadium is set to begin next month.
Once the work is completed capacity at the home of Shamrock Rovers will increase to 8,000 which will make it UEFA Category 4 standard, which is the European football authority’s highest category
This classification is necessary for the ground to host Europa League and Champions League group stage games.
The redevelopment will consist of a new single tier 2,195 seat, spectator stand, including associated ancillary and welfare facilities, to the south of the two existing spectator stands and pitch.
SDCC announced via a statement to Newstalk radio show Off The Ball that a contractor has been appointed and work is due to start in January and completed by the end of the summer.
The stadium will remain fully functional for the duration of the work, the only consequence of the construction will be a slight reduction in the number of car parking spaces where the contractors compound will be based.
