The US is already the country in the world with the most confirmed cases of COVID-19
It exceeds 83,500, ahead of China and Italy, which with 80,589 patients registered is just over a thousand positives from the Asian giant
The United States already has the highest number of registered cases of coronavirus, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University and used as a benchmark in this pandemic at the international level, along with those of the World Health Organization (WHO) itself. In total, in the world there are already more than 529,000 affected by this pandemic that continues its expansion.
The referred statistic indicates that 83,507 infections have already been recorded within the United States. However, local media such as ‘The New York Times’ put that count at least 81,321 people this Thursday. The second country with more positives for this disease is China, which despite having slowed down its growth considerably already reaches 81,782, while in Italy the figure was at 80,589 after maintaining a strong increase. The fourth place is for Spain where, according to the latest data performance that the Government does every day at noon, there were 56,188 cases, although from the aforementioned university center the number of 57,786 was noted at midnight. Germany, with 43,938, is fifth on the list.
Different American hospitals have reported in recent hours that they are increasingly overwhelmed with cases of coronavirus. Meanwhile, 40% of the 330 million inhabitants of the country are already under orders of confinement to prevent the spread of the disease.
100 deceased in New York
Likewise, at least 1,178 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University, including 100 deaths in the last day in the city most affected by the virus, New York.
While deaths are still higher elsewhere – the world’s deadliest country is still Italy at 8,215, followed by Spain (4,365) according to Johns Hopkins data – experts say new infection numbers show that many Americans will lose their lives. However, the true number of infections could be much higher than the official number due to a shortage of test kits.
The official count of coronavirus cases in the United States comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which has lagged behind external counts. On Thursday night, the CDC was still computing 68,440 cases, far from the more than 82,400 reported by the aforementioned North American university.
