On Monday night Tallaght Hospital celebrated International Day of the Volunteer with a concert in the main atrium for the Hospital’s volunteers, patients and their families.

The music was performed by a group called Sounds Ensemble, led by Terry Clancy, as well as the Tallaght Hospital Choir and the Tallaght Hospital Recorder Group who performed publicly for the first time.

International Volunteer Day is a global day that takes place every year on 5th December.

Designated by the United Nations since 1985, it offers an opportunity for volunteer organisations and individual volunteers to make their contributions visible at local, national and international levels and it gives organisations a chance to recognise, thank and celebrate volunteers across the world.

It is estimated that over 1 million people in Ireland volunteer, providing much needed support in the community and voluntary sector while also underpining so much great work being done across the country.
