Tallaght goes global as the Gateway to the Mountains

Tallaght Community Council say they commend and congratulate Simon Sweeney, the current Tallaght Person of the Year, on his submission to a global Mountain Protection Award for the Help the Hills project which is based in the Tallaght hillsides.

Help the Hills was shortlisted as a finalist in this prestigious global competition, proudly rubbing shoulders with other mountain protection projects in the Everest to the European Alps.

Twenty-two international projects werenominated for the 2017 UIAA Mountain Protection Award. From the Irish hills to the European Alps; from Everest to Patagonia and Denali to Damavand, the 2017 Award unites a rich, diverse array of projects across climate change, culture and education, waste management and disposal, conservation of biodiversity and resources and energy consumption.

This world ranking not only shows the confidence the community have in potential in rural hillside Tallaght but also proves  global mountain authorities see and believe that too.

TCC say they repeat their calls contained in their 7 point tourism plan for an improved linkage from the last terminus to the official start of the Dublin Mountain Way and to sign post this mountain amenity as soon as possible.

They also say they will continue to support Help the Hills and the Litterbugs who are all positive agents in the community founded and driven  ❤️Tallaghtoutdoors initiative.
