Tallaght Event Aims to ‘Change the Conversation’ Around Violence Against Women

The National Collective of Community Based Women’s Network [NCCWN] in partnership with Saoirse Women’s Refuge will hold a special event in Tallaght this week.

16 Days of Action Opposing Violence Against Women will take place in the Maldron Hotel on Thursday, December 7th from 7pm to 9pm.

Women Together Tallaght Network will host the event, which aims to open up a dialogue about violence against women in local communities around Ireland, alongside the Dublin Region of the NCCWN.

The event will include a presentation from Saoirse Women’s Refuge as well as a viewing of short film ‘Heartbreak’ which was written by award-winning Tallaght native, Emmet Kirwan.

There will also be music from a local choir and a candlelight vigil to make 16 Days of Action Opposing Violence Against Women.

A spokesperson for NCCWN said: “NCCWN recognises that Violence against Women is a pervasive issue in society which affects women, families and the local community. NCCWN works to provide opportunities to raise awareness and support communities to participate and develop local responses.”

As part of the work of NCCWN the organisation provides information and literature on domestic violence and organises awareness raising campaigns on the issue.

Attendance for the event on Thursday, December 7th is free of charge and all are welcome to come along and support on the night. Those who wish to attend are asked to register their interest by contacting Laura or Denise on 014627741.
