Tallafest 17 is launched with fun filled night in the village

Tallafest 17 had an energetic and fun launch last Friday night in Tallaght village as the local community came out in force to show their support for our popular annual festival.
The Station Restaurant in Molloys was the venue as Mayor Guss O Connell and Tallaght Person of the Year Simon Sweeney were on hand to get the party started and announce this years Tallafest will take place on Saturday 24th June.
Started in 2013 to mark The Gathering, the arts, culture and family festival has grown in popularity over the last few years.
Organised by the Tallaght Community Council, with support from an army of volunteers and local organisations, businesses and clubs, Tallafest is run for the whole community and everybody is encouraged to be part of what is a unique celebration of all things Tallaght.

Gerry Stockily, Voluntary chairperson of TCC said:

“Tallaght Community Council are extremely proud to officially launch the 5th, Tallafest.

“Tallafest is a fun and creative festival which brings thousands of people into the legally protected and historic Archaeological Conservation Area in Tallaght village every Summer.

“I want to recognise and thank the diligent, passionate and very humble volunteers and groups who work tirelessly behind the scenes for months to make this happen.

“Tallafest is run by the community for the community.

“We are still very much open for volunteers and sponsors to come on board to make Talalfest 17 the biggest yet – just contact us online – www.tallafest.ie.”

Tara De Buitléar, Voluntary Festival Director, said this years festival will have some exciting new elements.

“Tallafest is a wonderfully vibrant festival – with a mix of colour, music, dancing, performing, imaginative play activities, with our village heritage and the great outdoors in Tallaght – which is the #GatewayToTheMountains.

“This year’s festival has all the firm favourites – farm zone, live stage, sports zone, history zone and competitions as well as many, many new activities for families.

“To mark our 5th festival  we have a brand new festival zone – the Create Zone – where kids and parents can get active, have fun and  learn at the same time!

“This will include a Science Alley, clay modelling workshops with Jumping Clay Dublin and a very special Recreate workshop using recycled materials.

“We are delighted to announce that this year, we have our own Paddy Drac, who has volunteered for almost 50 years, as our Opening Ceremony Grand Marshal !

“And who better to lead out the fun on the day in Tallaght than everyone’s favourite vampire !

“Some activities require advance booking and have limits on numbers – so we advise everyone to check the website regularly – www.tallafest.ie .”
