Today, September 18th is Barnardos National Collection Day and all across the country collectors will be asking the public to support the charity. Actress and ambassador for the charity Amy Huberman has released an open call on Irish people to donate to the cause in a video.
Amy, a mother of two, says “Children deserve the best possible start in life but right now one in eight children in Ireland are living in consistent poverty. These children are going hungry, living in cold houses – they wake up each day with nothing to look forward to.
Barnardos works with these children and their families to protect their childhoods from poverty, hunger and fear
“Barnardos works with these children and their families to protect their childhoods from poverty, hunger and fear. But they need our help. Today, volunteers will be out all over the country collecting for Barnardos and raising vital funds for their work. Please donate or text what you can to help their important work.”
Barnardos works directly with disadvantaged children and families, providing services and support in 40 centres around the country. They also campaign for the rights of all children in Ireland, and provide training and knowledge resources to childcare professionals.
If you don’t see a Barnardos collector on the streets today, you can still text BUCKET to 50300 to donate €4* to Barnardos.
