Sundance TV to fund 1916 commemoration drama

Robert Redford’s Sundance TV has partnered with RTÉ to make a 1916 commemoration drama called Rebellion. As part of the deal the five part series will be screened in the US as Sundance TV is part of the AMC Network.

Rebellion stars Brian Gleeson, Charlie Murphy, Michelle Fairley, Ruth Bradley and Sarah Greene and is based around the 1916 Easter Rising and the families affected by the conflict.

RTÉ said that they aim to “portray the reality of life for people who were caught up in the events of the 1916 Rising” and that the deal “gives us a great opportunity to present the best Irish talent to a wider audience.”

Rebellion was written by Colin Teevan who also did the two part series Charlie about former Taoiseach Charles J Haughey and it will be directed by Finnish director Aku Louhimies. It will broadcast on RTÉ One in 2016.
