Star Wars breaks Irish record in opening weekend

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has smashed all box office records in its opening weekend in Ireland, with €3.3 million taken in ticket sales over just five days. Disney announced that this has broken records for the biggest Irish opening of all time as well as in the UK.

Globally the movie made €484 million in ticket sales, which is not surprising given the reprisal of classic roles of Princess Leia, Hans Solo and Luke Skywalker by original actors Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill.

It remains to be seen if Star Wars: The Force Awakens will break all time box office sales world records held by the top two films Avatar at €2.54 billion and Titanic at €2 billion.
