St. Colmcille’s National Schools receive their Flag as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme

On Wednesday 4th November Lt. David Finnegan and Sargent Karen Walsh from Baldonnel Aerodrome paid a special visit to St. Colmcille’s Junior and Senior National Schools as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme.

This a key initiative of the Programme and will see teams from Óglaigh na hÉireann, the Irish Defence Forces, visit every primary school across South Dublin County to deliver the National Flag and a copy of the 1916 proclamation. As outlined in the Centenary Programme, this will all culminate in Proclamation Day on 15th March 2016, which has been set aside by the Department of Education as a special day to focus on the 1916 Proclamation and the raising of our National Flag.

In addition to the National Flag and the 1916 Proclamation, Óglaigh na hÉireann will also deliver a pack for each school, to include a booklet on how to care for the Flag and a poster of Amhrán na bhFiann, our National Anthem. The format for the Defence Forces visit to Primary Schools is set out below and each ceremony is arranged by the school:
