Today was yet another historic date on the Irish calendar as the Seanad passed the Marriage Equality Bill through the Houses of the Oireachtas.
Fine Gael Dublin South West Senator, Cait Keane, has welcomed the passing of the Marriage Equality Bill.
“This day is a very happy day for Ireland. The passage of the Marriage Equality Bill not only expands the freedom to marry the person we love to all or citizen; it also removes the last legal impediment to equality for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters”.
The Marriage Bill is now ready to be signed into law next week. Marriages can then begin as soon as a commencement order is signed, which could take place within a fortnight.
