Since the UK vote on Bretix the Irish passport has become something of a luxury for those with any form of Irish heritage, because of this it has become hot property and seen a huge increase in demand.
Although many of us here havent been too affected with the long delays the service is about to get a whole lot quicker this week as Irish citizens as they will now be able to renew their passports online starting this week. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan TD, is set to launch the Online Passport Application Service (OPAS) this Thursday.
The service will allow citizens to renew their passport books and cards online from wherever they are in the world. Those wishing to use the new service will be able to access the website using their PCs, tablets or mobile phones. But only people who are over 18 will be able to avail of this service.
First time applicants and children will not be able to apply online and the current system remains in place for those applicants.
