‘Everything You Wanted to Know About Abortion, But Were Afraid to Ask’ is the theme of the next in a series of public conversations about abortion organised by the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment.
The free public event takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, 8th November, at 6.30pm in the Gresham Hotel, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1.
Speaking at the event will be journalist Roisín Ingle, and actor and writer Tara Flynn, who have both publicly shared their personal experiences of abortion.
Joining them will be Ailbhe Smyth, Convenor of the Coalition, and Dr. Marion Dyer, GP at the Blanchardstown Centre Surgery.
Speaking in advance of the event, Ailbhe Smyth said:
“Abortion is a deeply personal issue for many people, and not a topic that we have been encouraged to discuss openly in the past.
“By holding these public conversations, we’re hoping to remove some of the stigma around abortion and clarify any misconceptions that might exist.
“We’re inviting members of the public to come along to tomorrow’s free conversation to openly discuss and ask any questions they might have about abortion. Dr. Dyer will address medical misconceptions that are in the public sphere, while Roisín and Tara will speak of their own personal experiences.
“The issue of abortion and repealing the Eighth Amendment is not going away and it is imperative that the public are encouraged to engage with the topic openly and that they have an opportunity to ask questions and find out facts about abortion for themselves.”
Further public conversations will be announced at a later date. All publications and information on events are available at www.repealeight.ie and the Coalition’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/repeal8.
