Primary school principals have called for more financial supports for small schools and for principals who are also class teachers.
Beginning its annual conference in Dublin, the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN) said over half of primary school principals are full-time teachers, in addition to their school leadership role.
The IPPN has reiterated calls for a minimum of one day per week to be ring-fenced for school leadership responsibilities for those teaching principals.
It has called for this investment – which would cost €7m – to be prioritised.
The IPPN has also called for a return to pre-austerity levels for school middle management posts.
