The Anti-Austerity Alliance has made claims that the Gardaí are engaged in political policing after it had been refused permission for a bucket collection in Tallaght on the grounds that the proceeds would be used to encourage the commission of an unlawful act.
A Garda spokesperson would not make a comment as they do not comment on individual cases. AAA TD Paul Murphy claims it is also connected to the Jobstown protest. He said: “I don’t think it is an accident that the refusal is coming in Tallaght, obviously it’s where the Jobstown protest happened in November of last year which people are facing serious criminal charges in relation to.
“It is really unreasonable interference in the democratic process to stop a political party collecting money.”
