Sports clubs serving Tallaght, Rathfarnham and Citywest have emerged as major winners in the Governments sports grants scheme, according to Dublin South West TD and Independent Minister, Katherine Zappone.
Grants of over €1.2m have been provided to clubs providing activities ranging from tennis, football, boxing and cricket.
Minister Zappone has welcomed the fact that some of the funding is being used to improve access to ensure that people of all ages and people with disabilities can enjoy sports in their local communities.
Minister Zappone added:
“Sport is the lifeblood of our communities in Tallaght, Rathfarnham and Citywest. As well as enjoyment there are many health and wellbeing benefits for local people of all ages.
“Investing in sport makes sense. It is not only a tribute to the hard work of clubs, their workers and volunteers but helps cut waiting lists for health services by boosting wellbeing and fitness.

Minister Zappone also acknowledged the tradition of sporting excellence in the local area.
“Many of the clubs will use their funding to improve access for all members of our communities, there is also money for essential works as well as improvements.
“The fact that so much has been allocated is a tribute to all involved. We have a proud tradition of sport in Dublin South West and with this support it will continue.”
