A new 12 second clip of JJ Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been released on the official Star Wars Instagram account.

The footage launched in widescreen reveals Instagram’s new video capability.

In the footage we see actress Daisy Ridley (who will play Rey) looking to the sky with a frightened look on her face, with droid BB-8 behind her in the background.

“There has been an awakening, can you feel it?” a gravelly voice asks in the background. The footage ends showing what fans are saying is a big clue, as actor John Boyega (Finn) wields a blue lightsaber. So far, not much has been revealed about his character but this could hint at him being a jedi. He is seen in a snowy forest facing off against a figure in a black cloak, with a red lightsaber.

Fans have been speculating as to whether the figure is Adam Driver’s character, Kylo Ren.

A few of the key members from the original cast such as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will be starring in the movie.

Directed by JJ Abrams, it is believed to be set 30 years after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in cinemas globally on December 18.
