Michael Lawson took the crown as winner of the Voice of Ireland 2016 last night. The final was a thriller for us neutrals at home which saw four finalists battle it out in Dublin’s Helix theatre.
With stunning performances from Kelesa Mulcahy, Nigel Connell and Laura O’Connor there could only be one winner. Michael who was coached by Bressie, chose as his song 7 Years by Lukas Graham – his favourite from the line-up of previous songs – along with Superman by Five for Fighting as his second song.
The 19 year old singer was born in London and lives with his parents in Newbliss, Co Monaghan will now receive a recording contract with Universal Music Ireland for winning this year’s competition.
Kelesa Mulcahy took second place in the contest, which was hosted by Kathryn Thomas on RTÉ One. Nigel Connell was third with Laura O’Connor fourth.
Nicky Byrne performed Ireland’s Eurovision 2016 entry, Sunlight, as part of the final show in the current series.
