Songwriter and local man Keith O’Connell last month announced that he would be releasing his first single from his new album on May 27th.
At the end of the day will be available on iTunes at next week and the Tallaght man says he cannot wait for the first song from his album Genetic Lottery. Keith grew up in Aylesbury and has since been living in Kilnamanagh in Tallaght for the last 10 years.
The 36 year old has played support to various artists including Aslan (one of the gigs being in The Cork Opera House) along with Mickey Harte and Picturehouse. Keith plays both keyboards and acoustic guitar to complement his songs.
The album Genetic Lottery was recorded in Forkhill (near Newry) by producer/guitarist Dave Molloy using some of the top session musicians in the country and one of the songs, Tomorrow features sax from New York based musician Richie Cannata.
We caught up with the Tallaght man and spoke to him about his latest single and how the song came about he told us;
“At the end of the day is a song I wrote when on holidays in Ayia Napa dying with a hangover by the pool a few years ago.
The lyrics in one of the verses are “as the sun shines bright everyone is happy, it’s seems like this is the place we should have been a long long time ago” that was basically describing how I was feeling then.
The chorus has the lyrics “at the end of the day what have you go, If you haven’t got a song to sing” – those lyrics show how big and important music is in my life.”
He also spoke to us about his album which has 10 tracks, each one was written by Keith he also told us about his plans for the future in particular in 2016;
“I went to Dave’s studio, we brought in top session musicians to play on the songs and I’m very happy with how the album turned out. I went to London to get the album mixed by Steve Power (he mixed and co-produced all the Robbie Williams albums with Guy Chambers).
My plan for the future is to get the single out At the end of the day on iTunes on Friday 27th of May. I will be putting together an official video for the song and it will be online before the release.”
Listening to Keith’s new single I have to say it gets a massive thumbs up from us here at InTallaght, his tone of voice mixed with the lyrics really do mix beautifully. Keith is one to watch this year and we wish him all the best with his new album.
