A business dedicated to giving travellers the opportunity to live with locals is calling on people from Tallaght to sign-up and earn extra cash.
Homestay.com currently boasts more than 50,000 hosts offering places to stay across some 150 countries- including Kilnamanagh resident Geraldine who has been working with the company for 4 years.
Geraldine explained that she first got involved with Homestay after her parents died and her brother was struggling to pay the bills on his own.
She said: “I set it up for my brother and he found it very helpful financially and it was also nice to have people in the house, so I decided to do it myself.”
Geraldine previously hosted in Kingswood and when she moved to Kilnamanagh she continued with the service and explained that she usually has professionals from Tallaght Hospital or overseas students from IT Tallaght staying with her.
She said: “I am in a good area for it here, close to everything; the hospital, the IT and I have had people stay with me doing work placements in Citywest. It is nice getting to know people and I have made a lot of friends and recommended to other people to start hosting too.”

Suzanne Cox of Homestay.com explained that the company has had many enquiries from students doctors about accommodation in the Tallaght area and encouraged local people to sign up and earn some extra cash for Summer.
She said: “There are no restrictions on hosting, other than you must be living in your home during the guest’s stay. We do not accept empty properties. We only accept bookings from guests 18 years and over too.
“Hosts set their own prices and can earn up to €14,000 tax free under the rent-a-room relief.”
The listings page on the website is by host and location so as guests have ample choice and can read reviews online before booking. Hosts can also contact guests directly before they come to stay.
