Sun and fun were the order of the day at the Irish Blue Cross Bark in the Park sponsored dog race around beautiful Marlay Park last Sunday.
This was the second of four fundraising events this summer to raise funds to support the charitable veterinary work of the Irish Blue Cross and the event was very well supported by dogs lovers and regular Marlay Park visitors.
With the stunning backdrop of Marlay House, there was music, raffles, dancing volunteers, competitions and goody bags for everyone to enjoy and face-painting for both the young and old was provided by the FM104 Beetle Bug crew.
There was plenty of competition in the 5 Dog Competition categories – Best Dog, Waggiest Tail, Happiest Smile, Best Bark and Shiniest Coat with all winners’ prizes sponsored by Maxi Zoo.
Special guest appearances of Stormtroopers, Sandtroopers and Imperial Officers were a huge hit with Star Wars fans of all ages, courtesy of the volunteer group and friends of the Irish Blue Cross, the 501st Ireland Garrison. With lots happening and plenty of activities, it was a fun family day out for all who came along.
“This was our second Bark in the Park this year; in fact it’s our 9th year to host them. The weather was amazing if a little hot so with the dog’s welfare in mind, we made sure to have plenty of water on hand for all the doggies and we also had a shaded cooling off area with a dog paddling pool to make sure the pooches didn’t overheat. We had a really fun day with lots of familiar faces and a lot of new supporters too which was fantastic.” commented Alison Kelly, Marketing & Events Manager.
The charity will be hosting a further 2 sponsored dog walks this summer – the next in Tymon Park on the 9th July and The Phoenix Park on the 27th August.
