When I first heard Sylvester Stallone and his most memorable role Rocky were associated with Creed I thought I was about to watch a film that I would be lost in from start to finish as I hadn’t seen any of the Rocky franchise.

I was wrong, Creed tells the story of Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), whose father was Apollo Creed – for those of you (like me) unaware of this iconic boxer – he was who Rocky took on years previous and became a close friend of Rocky’s. Adonis never met his father, he died before he was born, but has a passion for the sport his father once lived for.

With the dream of success in his mind he finds the retired Rocky Balboa and asks the champ to train him. Rocky is reluctant at first as he has been struck down by an illness, but eventually he agrees to mentor him and the pair set out on a journey that will see Adonis get a shot at the title.

Creed is a must-see for Rocky fans, but as I have said it is not a necessity to have seen the originals. There are many heartfelt moments throughout this moviewhere Rocky acts as a father figure to Adonis who has been lacking this since he was born, for these scenes alone I wish I had seen the previous instalments.

Has Adonis got the true heart of a fighter? And can Rocky fight the greatest battle he has faced since his days in the ring? Go see it to find out!

Released January 15th
