Career guitarist and songwriter/producer Alan Maguire from Portobello, Dublin has released his first solo album The City and the Sky.
Alan, aged 41, has taken a step back from his position of supporting groups from over his 20+ year career as a guitarist on some of the countries biggest stages (Oxygen, Castlepalooza, Knockanstockan to name a few), to make the album.
The 11 track album is a reflection both of hitting the major milestone in life of turning 40 and dealing with the issue of being left behind after multitudes of friends, workmates and band mates have emigrated over the past number of years to countries such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand in search of work.
When Alan began to put this album together he said:
“I looked around and everyone I had worked with was gone and I was left with myself to develop this album”.
Over a six month period Alan worked tirelessly to complete the entire self-financed and produced project.
The self-titled track from the album The City and the Sky is a mixture of melancholy and hope on the expectation that old friends will be reunited again in the city on a Saturday night outside their favourite pub (Grogans of South William Street) with a clear view of the blue skies above the city and a vivid feeling of truly being alive.
The City and the Sky will be released on digital download from all major sites (iTunes, Amazon, Shazam, Spotify, etc.) on May 20th, 2016.
