A Dublin man told of his shock after he realised he’d won €500,000 during lunch time at work.
The delighted punter was in the work canteen with his colleagues on a Wednesday when he checked his winning ticket.
He said: “It was lunch time at work and I was in the canteen with all of my colleagues when I was scrolling through my Facebook feed on my phone.
“Somebody had posted about my local shop selling a EuroMillions prize worth a half million euro.
“I knew I had bought a ticket there and before I had time to even think about it, I had the ticket taken out of my wallet and I scanned it on my phone in front of everybody.
“When the phone beeped to give me the good news, I just sat there, stunned into silence.
“Instantly, everybody in the room knew that something was up and at that stage there was probably no chance I could have kept it to myself.
“Everybody is genuinely thrilled for my win so it does make it that more enjoyable to share the news with close friends and family.”
He bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket at the Applegreen service station on Kimmage Road Lower in Dublin 12.
The young man said that he’s hoping to spend his winnings on his first house and other gifts to close family members.
He added: “I have a house viewing next Monday. Honestly, I have been saving so hard for the longest to buy my first home so the win could not have come at a better time.
“Saving as much as I have been, it’s given me a great perspective on the value of money so once I have my sights set on a house, I’ll be mortgage free for the rest of my life and that is something that I could never have dreamed of in my wildest dreams, it is absolutely magical.
“With any of the money that is left over, I will obviously be sharing it with close family members.”
The National Lottery is appealing to EuroMillion players in south Dublin to check their tickets as the deadline for a Match 5 prize of €29,031 is fast approaching.
The winning Quick Pick ticket was sold at the Lidl Store on Main Street in Dundrum town centre on November 2.
The deadline for the ticket is the close of business on February 3.
