Colm Meaney set to play Martin McGuinness in new “Chuckle Brothers” film

An upcoming film about Sinn Féin politician Martin McGuinness and his relationship with Ian Paisley is set to get underway this September.

Dublin actor Colm Meaney is set to take on the role of Martin McGuinness with English actor Timothy Spall playing Ian Paisley. The film will focus on the period of the build up to the establishment of power sharing in 2007 that saw Sinn Féin and the DUP enter government together.

Reports have suggested that the film will focus on a fictional journey that brought about a friendship between the two men who stood at opposite ends of the political divide in Northern Ireland.

The script of the film looks set to be written by Irish novelist Colin Bateman with Nick Hamm directing.
