As part of its push to grow conference and business tourism from Great Britain, Tourism Ireland – together with 13 Irish tourism enterprises, including Citywest Hotel – attended The Meetings Show, which took place at Olympia in London.
PIC SHOWS: Catherine Bunn, Aviva Stadium, Dublin; Sarah Dallas, Tifco Hotel Group; Joyce McElroy, Tourism Ireland; Mairéad Cullen, InterContinental Dublin; Karina Martin, Park Avenue Hotel, Belfast; and Cathy Joyce, Citywest Hotel, at The Meetings Show in London.
Now in its third year, The Meetings Show attracts several thousand conference and meeting professionals and event planners, from Britain and Mainland Europe. The three-day event provided the Irish tourism companies with an excellent opportunity to do business face-to-face with the influential decision-makers in attendance, through a series of pre-scheduled appointments and networking opportunities.
David Boyce, Tourism Ireland’s deputy head of Great Britain, said: “The Meetings Show is another valuable platform for Tourism Ireland and our partners to showcase and sell Ireland and to build awareness of our world-class business and conference facilities. The superb meetings, incentive and transport infrastructure on offer, coupled with our distinctive cultural experience, means the island of Ireland is a very attractive destination for the business tourism market in Britain and Mainland Europe. Business tourism is the most lucrative form of tourism, offering significant economic benefits, and Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme of promotions under way to highlight the island of Ireland as a premier business tourism destination.”
Corporate meetings and association conferences are the focus of Tourism Ireland’s business tourism promotions in GB in 2015. As well as The Meetings Show, Tourism Ireland will have a presence at a number of key events during 2015. Presentations, workshops and networking events, direct marketing, as well as familiarisation visits for influential buyers are the mainstay of the activity, providing effective platforms for industry partners from the island of Ireland to ‘close the sale’. Monthly e-newsletters are also reaching about 2,000 MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) contacts throughout 2015.
