Christian Bale might be considered one of the great Batmans by film fans but the actor does not think he quite landed the performance he wanted.

The actor said he feels he missed the mark, telling Yahoo Movies: “I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy.

“Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it’.”

Heath Ledger’s scene-stealing performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight also added to that feeling.

Christian said: “Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans,” Bale said. ‘Because I went, ‘He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.’“

Heath won a posthumous Oscar and numerous other accolades for the role.

The actor said that he had a specific sense of who Batman was and how he related to Bruce Wayne, adding: “Batman, he’s just this very, very, very dark, messed-up character.

“I found when I put on the suit, I felt like, ‘I just feel like a bloody idiot if I don’t use this as a means of — it’s kind of his true monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment.’”

Ben Affleck will be the next Batman stepping up to the plate when Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits cinemas. Check out the latest trailer below.
