Chris Rock’s opening Oscars monologue in 60 seconds


With the controversy surrounding the lack of black nominees at this year’s Oscars, everyone wondered how host Chris Rock would address it. The obvious answer was: with a lot of humour.

Here’s how he opened the ceremony.

The comedian earned a lot of praise for the way he tackled Hollywood’s perceived racism, and his overall performance as host.

There was, however, a bit of confusion at Chris’s implication that minorities in America today had nothing else to protest.

But it was cleared up at the end of the night, with Chris shouting out to the Black Lives Matter movement.

As well as directly addressing police brutality.

And by the end, there were probably a lot of drunk people watching on at home…
