Charity Football Tournament to Raise Funds for Jigsaw

Tallaght man Vincent Whelan is hoping to raise plenty of funds for Jigsaw with an indoor football tournament featuring some very well-known Irish faces.

The special event will take place on Sunday, August 27th at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght and Vincent is expecting a big crowd to come along and support on the day.

He told InTallaght: “So as we get closer we have confirmed a Free Style football team by Street Soccer Ireland, a Bohs legends team captained by Celtic legend Paul Byrne, Irish musicians including The Coronas and special guests, a team of celebs, a team of former League of Ireland professionals and some Shamrock Rovers management and coaches.”

Vincent also confirmed that there will be a team of regular people as well as Irish star Stephanie Roche, Dessie and Richie Baker, League of Ireland players Killian Brennan and Jay Byrne plus Richie Kiely, Paddy Hoolahan, Brian Ormond and Nicky Byrne.

The Tallaght man is gathering as many famous faces together for the charity tournament as possible in an effort to highlight youth mental health and suicide.

He said: ” I want to be able to help anyway possible with the prevention of suicide. Football is a great way of bringing people together and with having so many high profile people in attendance on the day of the event it shows we all want to help and reach out to people who need reaching out to.”

Tickets for the event, which begins at 10am, are just €5 and all proceeds will go to Jigsaw, an organisation focused on young people’s mental health and well-being.

Vincent will be at The Square in Tallaght on Friday, August 18th, near the entrance to the cinema selling tickets to the event which is sponsored by Renault Belgard.

A limited number of tickets will also be available on August 27th at the entrance to the Basketball Arena.
