News broke shortly this morning that Celtic Football Club were to hold a press conference at 2.30 today. Journalists throughout Scotland reported that they were to be in attendance but nobody seemed so sure as to what it was all about. All that was quoted was it was a “major” announcment.
Major was probably the correct word to use by the crowned champions of Scotland as they have just broke the news that manager Brendan Rodgers has signed a new 4-year contract with the club who are on course to their first treble since the O’Neill era. In a statement from the club this afternoon they said;
“Celtic Football Club are delighted to announce that manager Brendan Rodgers has signed a new four-year contract with the club which will run until June 2021.
Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “Brendan has made a huge impact at Celtic already. He’s an outstanding manager and we believe he is one of the best coaches in Europe, if not world football, and we’re delighted that he has committed his future to Celtic.”
Brendan Rodgers has already led the team to the Premiership title and League Cup success this season, remaining unbeaten after 38 domestic games, with a Scottish Cup semi-final to come later this month, while also guiding the team into the group stages of the UEFA Champions League”
The news will be welcomed by fans of the club who just last week were told by Sky Sports pundit Neil McCann that they would do well to not just keep their manager but also a number of the squad after this season, although McCann shied away from those views when Rodgers entered the studio after his side had won the league.
Celtic Football Club seem to have it all right now and with Brendan signing a contract for the next few years fans must now be wondering just how far this squad can go. With six leagues won in a row right now and a four year contract with Brendan add it all up and it looks like a 10 in a row is very much on the cards for Celtic!
