E-commerce giant Amazon is understood to be preparing to build another data centre in Dublin with a €600m investment figure being suggested.
Since the end of last year there have been reports that the company is planning to locate its fourth data centre in Dublin here in Tallaght, where it bought a site that was previously the base of warehouse firm Barretts.
Amazon already have data centres here, in Blanchardstown and Clonshaugh, where this weeks Sunday Times newspaper is reporting that planning permission has been sought for a new 14,000 sq m construction.
Amazon is one of the biggest tech employers in Ireland with 1,400 people employed in Dublin and 800 in Cork.
Speaking last year at the launch of the companies latest recruitment drive in this country, Amazon Ireland’s general manager Jeff Caselden said:
“We’ve been an active member of the Irish technology community for over a decade now and Ireland’s creative culture and the diverse set of technical skills we’re able to recruit for here, make it an ideal location for our rapidly expanding business.
“Some of our most exciting creations we have at Amazon stem from the work we do here for our customers.”
