Tallaght Community Arts are hosting a series of 15 readings of the Proclamation that will take place outside the Civic Theatre,Tallaght next Friday April 22nd. Each reading will be read by individuals of all ages in Irish, English and other languages representing some of the cultural diversity of the county at four minutes past the hour from sunrise (6.04) until sunset (20.04).
The readings mark the centenary of the reading of the Proclamation by Patrick Pearse at 12.04 on Easter Monday, 24 April 1916. Mayor Sarah Holland will read the 12.04 time slot. The readings will be on a small stage outside the Civic Theatre with a backdrop of two specially designed and printed banners made by 10 participants working with artist and printmaker Jim Cathcart .
The event is also a celebration of the cultural and social changes that have taken place in Ireland over the last 100 years. It acknowledges Ireland’s growing cultural diversity and the contribution that people from different cultural backgrounds are making to Irish contemporary life.
The event will be filmed over the day by media artists Square on Square. A copy of the edited film will be presented to the County Library Local History section as part of the 2016 Commemorations archive.
