The first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse was recently released, this is the ninth film in the X-Men franchise and following the success of X-Men: Days of Future Past sees the prequel characters take over again.
This film is the third in the X-Men prequel franchise and the first time that we get to see James McAvoy in full Charles Xavier with the bald head. Like with most of the X-Men films there is a divide in the mutant world when the most powerful mutant Apocalypse awakens and is disillusioned with the modern world.
He sets out to recruit his horsemen, one of which is Magneto to cleanse humanity and make a new world order. Charles Xavier is tasked with leading his young team of X-Men alongside Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence).
Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark from A Game of Thrones) plays a young Jean grey in the film and Kodi Smit-McPhee brings Nightcrawler back to the big screen, having originally been portrayed by Alan Cumming in X-Men 2. Cyclops also makes his return to the franchise with Tye Sheridan taking over the role, Nicholas Hoult returns as Hank McCoy/Beast.
Following the underwhelming X-Men 3 many thought the franchise to be done however the introduction of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto respectively in X-Men: First Class the franchise has undergone a resurgence.
This was seen in the brilliant X-Men: Days of Future Past which added Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the mix, although he is not in this instalment of the franchise Jackman has said that he will reprise his role as Wolverine/Logan for the final time in a third Wolverine film due out in 2017.
X-Men Apocalypse is due for release on May 27th 2016 and it will be released in 2D, real 3D and IMAX 3D.
